John Henry Coleman, born October 3, 1948, in Carlisle, MS, passed away on August 18, 2026, at the Claiborne County Medical Center.

A devoted student of Port Gibson High School, John began his career at Farmer’s Co-op in the early 1980s, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. His faith was central to his life, serving as a deacon at Springfield M.B. Church in Carpenter, MS, and being an active member of the Masonic Lodge.

John found joy in gardening, singing, and spending time with his family. He cherished his moments watching Western shows and the humor of Fred G. Sanford on "Sanford & Son."

Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mildred Mason-Coleman and Richard Coleman, Sr., and his grandparents, Luvenia Peoples and Israel Mason, John leaves behind a legacy of profound love. His sister Clara Johnson and brothers Richard Coleman, Jr., Roosevelt Mason Sr. and Bernard Coleman also preceded him in death. 

Survived by his wife, Alice Mae Coleman, John was a devoted father to his three daughters: Santraila Epps, Eva Epps, and Barbara Phelps. He also embraced Shernice Dee, Jennifer Green, Danny Hyder, Jr., and Christopher Hyder as his own children with unconditional love.

As a caring brother to Christine Watson, Geraldine Booth, Frances LeFleur, Lorraine Hunt, Stephanie Henderson, Nora Williams, Heather Henderson, Minister William Coleman, Robert Coleman and Edrick Henderson. John touched countless lives with warmth and kindness.

His legacy is lovingly carried on by his 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, forever inspiring them with his strength and dedication. John Coleman’s life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and community, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew him.

The family will receive friends during visitation at Barnes Chapel & Mortuary Service, 5087 Hwy 61 South, Port Gibson, MS 39150, on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Springfield M.B. Church, 1126 Myles Station Road, Carpenter, MS 39086, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Minister William Coleman will be officiating.
