Our Story

On February 3, 2020, Barnes Chapel & Mortuary Service proudly opened its doors to serve the families of Claiborne County and the surrounding communities.


We are honored to be the most modern—and the only purpose-built funeral home in Claiborne County. Our facility was thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and convenience during life’s most difficult moments. We offer spacious visitation rooms, a beautiful chapel with seating for up to 150 guests, and a full-service floral shop conveniently located within the funeral home.


Owning a funeral home has been a lifelong dream of Derrick Barnes. As a child, he often sat on his grandmother’s front porch, directly across from the church he attended, watching funeral processions and services. Those early experiences inspired him to pursue a career dedicated to serving families with compassion, dignity, and professionalism. At the age of 16, Derrick began working in his first funeral home, where his passion for funeral service continued to grow. After graduating from Hinds County Agricultural High School in Utica, Mississippi, he attended Northwest School of Mortuary Science, where he completed his professional education.


Today, Derrick Barnes is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and is a proud member of the Mississippi Funeral Directors and Morticians Association.


His commitment to excellence, integrity, and compassionate care remains the foundation of every family served by Barnes Chapel & Mortuary Service.
